TWO CULTURES. ONE PASSION. WINE!
THE STORY OF A CROSS CONTINENTAL WINE
Part I : When a dream comes true
Paul Barth is a tenacious entrepreneur. He goes for what he wants and has a zest for life. Excellent food, fantastic wines and a good laugh with his mates – the things that make Paul’s days special! He grew up between his father’s Riesling vines in Germany’s beautiful Rheingau region. Over the past decades he has established his own building business.
But over the recent years he has been dreaming of his own winery in South Africa – now his home…
Part II : When the right forces meet
Paul met Pia by chance at a mutual friend’s wedding. It was an instant connection, despite Pauls very limited command of the English language. Pia a succesful women in her own right, was not easily won over by this charming German. It took months of Paul getting friends to type messages in English to this enchanting woman.
Pia’s zest for life and infectious energy soon turned Pauls second home, into his first.
Part III : When a house became a home
Paul and Pia’s love for wine and the wine industry soon lead them to looking for the perfect farm to call home. After Pia showed Paul the property and adjacent vineyards she knew it was the right fit. Paul however took a little more persuading. After a visited to the property and a walk in his now beloved vines he knew this was the right property. KUNJANI! Wines is nestled in the valley of Devon Vale, Stellenbosch. The rich Clovelly soil is home to our flagship Shiraz vines. After two years of hard work our tasting room and restaurant now greet you as you drive up Blumberg drive.

Part IV : When a plan comes together
Paul and Pia now had the farm, the vines, the grapes and a plan. When Carmen Stevens took over as winemaker for KUNJANI! Wines it was as if the whole dream suddenly became a reality and the right team was in place to take this unique brand to the next level. Carmen, one of South Africa’s most awarded winemakers, has personally taken Pia under her wing to mentor in the fine art of wine production.
